On the 20th of February 2018, the inauguration of The Moshe Mirilashvili Institute for Applied Water Studies took place at Tel Aviv University. Moshe Mirilashvili was the beloved father of Michael Mirilashvili, Watergen’s President.
During the opening ceremony, six companies presented their water technologies to the honored guests: Atlantium, Fluence Corp, Kando, Bermad, Utilis and Water Fund Investment. A special video highlighting Dr. Mirilashvili’s contributions to the field of water including as the President of Watergen was also screened.
The Moshe Mirilashvili Institute for Applied Water Studies will support and promote R&D in related fields with a view to developing a new generation of pioneering water technologies.
Over the last 30 years, the world has witnessed a substantial drop in the availability of potable water. Today, 884 million people worldwide – one in eight people alive – do not have access to safe water supply; by 2025, this figure is expected to rise to two-thirds of the world population.
As conventional methods for ensuring a clean water supply are insufficient, the implications for the planet’s sustainability, public health and civil stability are clearly significant. Recognizing this, Tel Aviv University established the Water Research Center in 2015 to pioneer water and wastewater treatment technologies. Now, Tel Aviv University has also established the Moshe Mirilashvili Institute for Applied Water Studies.
