22nd of March, The World Water Day: The island nation of Antigua and Barbuda is preparing to receive Watergen’s GEN-350, an atmospheric water generator that produces safe-clean drinking water from the humidity in the air. The GEN-350 will arrive to Antigua in April and be dispatched to the country’s largest Health-care institution, the Mount St. Johns Medical Centre.
Such technology is critical for Antigua and Barbuda, which is just one of the many countries in the world that are faced with challenges surrounding water management. For the better part of this decade, the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) has been forced to implement scheduled rationing of water around the country due to an ongoing drought that has significantly reduced the supply of Pot Works Dam, the country’s main source of surface water.
The GEN-350 is a technological innovation of the Israel-based company Watergen. One GEN-350 unit can produce up to 900 liters of water per day. With a weight of just 800 kilograms, the GEN-350 is easily transportable and can be installed anywhere. It is provided with an internal water treatment system and needs no infrastructure to operate except for electricity. The placement of a GEN-350 at the hospital will ensure that the hospital will always have a supply available of pure, clean drinking water.
UN Ambassador for Antigua and Barboda, Dr. W. Aubrey Webson said: “By donating this GEN-350 to our country, Watergen is leading by example in joining with Antigua and Barbuda in fulfilling UN General Assembly Resolution 64/292, which recognizes the human right to clean water and sanitation and their necessity for the realization of all human rights. On behalf of the government and people of Antigua and Barbuda, we thank Watergen for its donation of the GEN-350.”
“In line with this year’s World Water Day theme of ‘leaving no one behind’ and our mission to make sure that every human has access to safe drinking water, we are ensuring that a renewable water supply be available to the most vulnerable people living in Antigua and Barbuda,” said Watergen’s President and visionary Dr. Michael Mirilashvili.
Watergen’s efforts to make fresh, pure water available around the globe earned the company its place on the World Economic Forum’s list of the world’s top technology pioneers in 2018. Most recently, Watergen’s technology was recognized at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) sponsored by the Consumer Technology Association. At CES, Watergen’s “GENNY,” a water generator suited for homes and offices, was the “Best of Innovation Honoree” in the “Tech For a Better World” category. The award is given to the innovation that scores the highest and as being the most impressive in a respective category. The GENNY also received the distinction as an honoree in the “Home Appliances” category at CES. With a weight of just 50 kilograms, the GENNY can use ambient air to produce between 25 and 30 liters of water per day.
